The Great Merle Hagard

Merle Haggard
Merle Ronald Haggard (born April 6, 1937) is an American country music singer, guitarist and songwriter.
Emerging from prison in the 1960s, having broken out 17 different times, Haggard was one of the early innovators of the Bakersfield Sound. With his hard biting electric guitar, he almost singlehandedly introduced the electric sound to country music. By the 1970s, he was aligned with the growing outlaw country movement, and has continued to release successful albums through the 1990s and into the 2000s. His work in familiar country themes -- jail, betrayal, drinking and wandering -- include a directness that reflects his own life experience. His deep, grumbling voice and his guitar work gives his country a blues-like quality in many cuts. I had The pleasure of working with Merle On several ocasions The first time I met The Hag I waas working at aHoliday Inn in Reddington California up close to Mount Shasta. He had me go to Bakersfield to audition for and with his band. I was a big okd green horn Texan and I didn't get the job . But I believe it was a Compliment and a privilage just to get to aaaaudition. Played in the samr concerts several times with the Hag. Thdere was not one concert that wasn't a great one. We'll never replace THE HAG. Talk To you guys later, May the good Lord Keep and Bless you all. Buffalo Brown
